Not all youthful voices have spent their formative years at The Summer Camp For The Eternally Cheerful.
For some, like Brendan Maclean, the world is not all about happy pizza nights and running hand in hand along beaches singing the praises of yet another sugar-charged energy drink. His voice resides in the reality of bus stops, computer games, getting lifts with no-show friends and the awkward moment when young guy meets the beautiful young girl - only to stuff it up.
Brendan's voice is MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, digital trickery and mass brand consumerism. Brendan and his peers decide how your brand is used. Be nice to him and his friends. They will look for it, try it, wear it, share it. They may even create art from it. And then just as quickly dump it or create a cult sensation of it.
We used to call people like Brendan "weedy", then it was "dorky", recently it was "geeky". Today he's the guy you desperately need to fix your computer, program your home security, download a ringtone and tell you who your daughter is blogging. Look who's laughing now.
Brendan's voice is as ideal for today's modern technology as it is for the heartbreak angst of youthful romance or the uncomfortable subjects discussed on the doortsteps of welfare safe houses. |
